Hello, I’m Alison. I’m a proud member of the LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent and disabled communities, and I actively support trans rights. I’m a dual citizen and moved to the UK from America in 2001.
I believe therapy has room to hold a lot of big things – laughter, tears, confusion, and general messiness. I approach each person as an individual and tailor the work to the specific therapeutic relationship I make with that person. It’s a collaborative process, and I always welcome information from you on what you need.
I qualified as a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor in 2008 (level 7). I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, and eligible for Senior Accreditation. (That’s if my ADHD lets me complete the process this year!)
I have wide therapeutic experience and training, and at the moment my work is with adults and young people via online meetings. The name of my practice clues you in to the fact that I am affirming and welcoming to the queer and trans community, but part of that work must acknowledge that people in these communities often also are neurodivergent. As such, historical and present abuse is a big issue – and I have experience working with childhood sexual abuse, domestic abuse in families or from intimate partners, and sexual assault. It all sounds heavy, and while I try to make our sessions as safe as possible, it’s not all doom and gloom. I’m a real person, with real life experiences, and I bring my authentic self into the therapeutic space. I like bad jokes and am not scared off by dark humour or dark thoughts.
I’m a white counsellor, with all that means, but I am always learning and growing, and I actively support people of colour and immigrants.
